Additional Insurance

Page Header

Even with comprehensive coverage from your primary medical plan, you will still have some out-of-pocket expenses if you get critically ill, or seriously injured, or need to be hospitalized. Additional insurance offers added protection to help you cover costs that arise in these situations.

Overview

You can enroll in any combination of the following plans as a new hire, during 2024 Enrollment, or if you have a Qualified Life Event (QLE). You pay the full cost of coverage through Post-tax paycheck deductions. To enroll, log in to the Compass website.

Additional insurance plans provide:

Cash benefits that you can use to pay expenses not covered by your primary medical coverage.

Flexibility to spend your benefit payment on whatever costs you’re facing, including medical bills, transportation costs, child care fees, and daily living expenses.

Financial protection against the high costs often associated with accidental injuries, a serious illness, or a hospital stay.

An inexpensive way to supplement a high-deductible health plan, giving you a cost-effective package of coverage that may minimize your overall medical expenses.

Keep in mind

On their own, additional insurance plans don’t provide comprehensive medical coverage for your day-to-day health care needs. Rather, they’re intended to supplement the coverage provided by your primary medical plan.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance supplements your primary medical plan by providing cash benefits in cases of covered off-the-job accidental injuries. You can use this money to help pay for medical expenses not paid by your medical plan (such as your deductible or coinsurance) or for anything else (such as everyday living expenses).

Coverage is available:

  • Without any medical questions to answer at initial enrollment
  • For your dependents

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you, unless assigned to someone else
  • In addition to any other coverage, like your primary medical plan or an Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) plan

You receive a cash benefit up to a specific amount for a wide range of off-the-job injuries and services, including, but not limited to:

  • Dislocation or fracture
  • Ambulance
  • Emergency room treatment
  • Hospital admission and confinement
  • Intensive care
  • Medical expenses
  • Outpatient physician’s treatment
  • Rehabilitation
  • Dismemberment
  • Accidental death

The actual benefit amounts you receive depend on the type of injuries you have and the medical services you need.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness coverage protects against the financial impact of certain illnesses, such as a heart attack, cancer, or stroke. If you experience a covered illness, you receive a lump-sum benefit payment to help cover out-of-pocket expenses for your treatment that are not covered by your medical plan. You also can use the money to take care of other expenses, such as housekeeping services, special transportation, and child care.

Coverage is available:

  • Without any medical questions to answer at initial enrollment
  • For your dependents (covered dependents receive 50% of your benefit amount)

Choose from two benefit coverage options:

  • $10,000
  • $20,000

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you, unless assigned to someone else
  • For 14 covered illnesses (diagnosis must occur after coverage takes effect, and the date of diagnosis for each illness must be at least 90 days apart)
  • Regardless of any other medical or disability plan coverage you have

Receive a wellness benefit:

  • $50/year for each covered member after completing one of the approved wellness tests

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

A hospital indemnity plan provides supplemental payments to help offset your share of the costs associated with a covered hospitalization and related services, such as ambulance transportation, surgery, and certain inpatient or outpatient treatments.

Coverage is available:

  • Without any medical questions to answer at initial enrollment
  • For your dependents

Choose from two benefit coverage options:

  • Low Plan, which includes a $1,000 hospital admission and $100 daily hospital and ICU confinement benefit*
  • High Plan, which includes a $2,000 hospital admission and $200 daily hospital and ICU confinement benefit*

*Limit of one hospital admission per year and up to 10 days per confinement. There is no waiting period for pregnancy.

Benefits are paid:

  • Directly to you, unless assigned to someone else
  • As a lump sum or on a benefit schedule
  • In addition to any other insurance you have
